Chapters
AITP helps members grow professionally and
personally. The core of the AITP experience is the chapter network, 400
professional and student chapters throughout the country. Chapters offer
technical and managerial educational programs and provide opportunities for
networking.
Conferences
To supplement the chapter educational programs, AITP provides conferences at
the regional and national levels. For example, the highly acclaimed National
Collegiate Conference attracts more than 700 students, educators, and industry
representatives annually.
Web portal
AITP’s web portal (www.aitp.org) is a primary vehicle for delivering AITP
benefits. The portal enhances communications between AITP, its members and the
general public. The public sections of the portal showcase the benefits of AITP
membership, its chapters, regions, and committees. There is an extensive
calendar of events. Members have access to the members-only section that
provides high quality white papers, presentations, and publications such as
AITP’s Information Executive / Nanosecond. Members can also participate in
dozens of IT-related discussion forums for networking with other industry
professionals. Members can also access a members-only directory and a wide
variety of job-related resources at the Robert Half Technology Information
Resource Center.
Affiliate Programs
AITP has developed affiliations with several kinds of organizations. Vendor
affiliates comprise companies that offer negotiated discounted benefits and
services such as group insurance plans, conference registration fees, travel
services, magazine subscriptions, financial services, and shipping services. A
30% discount from Kinko’s is a recent example. Partner affiliates are companies
that play an important role in growing the IT profession and AITP membership.
They provide benefits to members and contribute financially to AITP. Microsoft,
with its seminars and free software, and Robert Half Technology, with its
research, strong support of the National Collegiate Conference, and
soon-to-be-available job postings, offer two excellent examples. Industry
affiliates are organizations whose members strive to advance the knowledge and
skills of IT professionals, such as the Institute for Certification of Computer
Professionals (ICCP). Current relationships are listed on the web portal under
their respective affiliate category.
Advocacy
AITP serves as an effective voice beyond the boundary of the Association itself
through legislation advocacy, professional behavior guidelines, and
professional certification. The Legislative Committee researches key
legislation and advocates positions in support of AITP’s members. For example,
AITP joined with other organizations to defeat the establishment of the Uniform
Computer Information Transactions Act. The committee has been involved in key
issues affecting members including spam, do-not-call registry and privacy
issues, and the Verisign initiative. AITP members agree to the AITP Code of
Ethics and abide by the AITP Standards of Conduct, long established guidelines.
And AITP is a member and major supporter of certification through ICCP.
Summary
Through quality IT-related education, information on
relevant IT issues, and forums for networking with experienced peers and other
professionals, AITP is the information technology professional organization of
choice for providing leadership opportunities, professional development and
personal growth. Explore AITP at www.aitp.org.
