What's the MSO?
Mu Sigma Omicron (Management Science
Organization) was the precursor to the Oklahoma
State University, Stillwater, chapter of the AITP. It was a small organization
of people interested in computers, a population not very large in the late 80s
and early 90s. Then, with the sudden boom in computing technologies in the early
90s, computers were reborn. The number of people enrolling into the Management
Information Systems program here at OSU increased many folds, and the small
group of people who ran the tiny (at the time) MIS department had to restructure
their responsibilities completely and refocus on expanding the academic program
that they offered. In the rush of the exciting chaos that followed, the MSO
wilted and ultimately vanished.
....
The concept of the MSO, however, didn't ever completely fade
away. The MIS department created a new organization that spawned off of the
MSO. After affiliating itself with the Association of Information Technology
Professionals, the OSU chapter of the AITP was born in the Spring semester of
2004. Fresh after a long slumber, the AITP is here to carry on from where the
MSO left off.
