Monday the 19th

"The Lone Star Saga: The Story of a Place and How it Changed in the 20th Century "

7:00 - 8:30 pm We are pleased to present our President and System CEO, Dr. David Schmidly, as our inaugural speaker.This speech will be in room 106 of the Noble Research Center. The president will be available for book-signing after the talk.

Tuesday the 20th

"Conservation by Design: The Nature Conservancy's Work in Oklahoma and Abroad "

12:00 - 1:00 pm The Society of Environmental Scientists is hosting and Earth Week Luncheon with Tim Grogan, Executive Director of The Nature Conservancy's Oklahoma Chapter, as the featured speaker. The venue is the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room of the Edmon Low Library. A sandwich lunch will be provided as a "minimum waste" event.

Baraka

7:00 - 9:00 pm The final film in the eco film project's spring 2004 series. Baraka, "an ancient Sufi word with forms in many languages, translates as a breath or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds". Please join us in room 313 of the Classroom Building for popcorn, and an exquisite aural/visual experience.

Wednesday the 21st

"Real Wealth, Real Security"

7:00 - 8:30 pm We are proud to present Dr. Scott Sanders as our keynote speaker for Earth Week. We hope you will join us in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room of the Edmon Low Library. Dr. Sanders' talk will explore the fact that "our only true wealth, our only real security, derives from the health and bounty of the Earth. By living more simply, by conserving rather than consuming the Earth, we can show our gratitude and respect. We can also discover clarity, meaning, and joy".

Dr. Sanders is a Distinguished Professor of English who has been teaching at Indiana University since 1971, and a prolific writer "concerned with our relation to nature, issues of social justice, the character of community, and the impact of science on our lives". Dr. Sanders and his many published works will be available afterwards for book signing.

Earth Fest: Creating a Sense of Place

The Edmon Low Library Lawn is the place to be each Earth Day. Come out for the sun, the Ecolymics, the music, to hear the president, the free food, to visit the tables, or just for fun. This year's Earth Fest showcases local environmental awareness organizations, as well as hands-on activities such as paper recycling and vermiculture.

2nd Annual Environmental Awards Banquet

7:00 - 9:00 pm The Environmental Institute, Environmental Science Graduate Program, and Environmental Science Undergraduate program's Environmental Awards Banquet is taking place at the White Barn Estates (2020 E Lakeview). This year's featured speaker is Oklahoma Secretary of the Environment Miles Tolbert. There will be a cocktail hour beginning at 6:00 pm.
