We are waiting on contracts. Kara Craig is in the process of writing a cover letter that will explain to the businesses that we are still working on this. They will also get a copy of a sample contract. We passed around a sign up sheet so different people could be in charge of working with a couple different businesses. We are also looking at decals for the businesses to put on their door. We are looking at sign printing places in Stilly and also on the internet (they may be cheaper there) we are going to ask HEW if they want to split this cost with us. The Readership program has been vetoed by SGA Volunteers are needed for the 6th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. You would basically be directing traffic, so it'll be easy. It will take place Saturday September 27th from 9-2pm For more info or to volunteer call the City of Stillwater Environmental and Safety Service At (405) 533-8482***VERY IMPORTANT***
Beth is meeting with President Schmidly on October 3rd. We need to give her things to present to him. Here is what we had in mind… -getting the OSU bus fleet to run on Bio diesel. It shouldn't cost too much to get the parts for this, and Bio diesel fuel might be cheaper. -Getting OSU to purchase 5% of its energy from Wind Power It would be so awesome if we could see this happen!!! Sorry, I had to add that…Attendance:

ECO Folks,
The fundraising event last week brought in about $390 for the Eco Film Project. I think this is very good for a first time event. We need to thank the OSU Foundation for helping-buying the food, paying to rent the space and sending out the invites. I will bring a thank you card to the meeting next week for people to sign.
We need to raise around $550 (see below) more for the rest of the year. Since we have not solicited the departments, I would do this for the logical next step. Last year Sociology, International Studies and Geography gave us each $200. I would at the least contact them and also include Journalism and Broadcasting as well as any others that make sense. We will set up people with information about the film series to talk individually with the department heads.
We also need people to help with panelists and advertising for the rest of the fall series (see list of films and tasks below). We can talk about this in the next meeting.
Thanks for your help.

We met in the reading room of the library in order to tour the Smithsonian "Listening to
the Prairie".
Jim's presentation on the Tar Creek Superfund Site has been rescheduled to October 15th, at 6:30pm in 101 Life Sciences East. He will be showing a brief film, speak for approximately ten minutes, then open the floor for discussion.
(fyi the superfund fund is now bankrupt, and taxpayers are footing the entirety of the costs for this program. the current administration does not agree with the "polluter pays" philosophy)
Clay put the wrong time on all the media (7:30 instead of 7:00) for Escape from Affluenza.
Sunday the 12th, from 10:30-3:00 at Sanborn Lake (turn Left on Airport from N. Washington, then Left again just past the Armory like you are going to the ball fields, and follow the gravel road to the end). We will be sharing an activity with the Stillwater Recycling Coalition/Sustainable Stillwater that involves with children identifying recyclables and receiving a treat. If you would like to help or need a ride, email Andy (potteat *at* okstate).
Andy and Clay will be there by 3:00pm on Friday, so come when you can. We have reserved 3 spots, so that we are secluded (no more bachelor parties next door) at a cost of $18 for the night. Andy and Kara are going shopping for $30 worth of essentials.
If you have a favorite food or drink, please bring it to supplement whatever they buy (something to make dinner with and fruit/snacks I think). It seems everyone has to leave early Saturday morning for something, but if not we can hike the trails.
Five persons paid dues, and the faculty advisor was declared exempt.
John Wood spoke about a group he is involved with locally that is generating a petition to get the Stillwater City Council to pass a resolution condemning the sections of the PATRIOT Act/PATRIOT Act 2 that erode our Bill of Rights. They intend to present it around Thanksgiving. For more information, email him at greenwoodjr *at* hotmail.
Andy formally announced his intentions for a new committee with the goals of presenting the administration with a proposal to buy at least 5% of the school's electricity from the new wind farm and get more native plants used in landscaping the campus.
Sentiment was expressed that another training exercise like the Ruckus Camp would be good.
Beth reported on her meeting with Dr. Schmidly. She said he was a big picture guy, and that initiatives had to come from the grassroots level. His main thrust for next semester is going to be a conservation speaker series which would be available for credit. Kara Cook volunteered to be an ECO-OSU representative for the panel.
Our Secretary was ill, and I do not take astute minutes.

^ top-Announcement of Wednesday’s film
Thursday the 30th at 7 pm at Allen and Jana Graber’s house. 714 McDonald on the right side, red brick house
went well how about another one? -tentative-Nov. 7 or 14th
-We broke up into groups to discuss committees
Clay and Jana are going to HEW to talk about contract and then we will move from there
We may have a speaker come from OGE to tell us about alternative energy so we will know how to present it. Then we would like to put together a petition for SGA. We also need to put together a cost benefit analysis.
Isaac Gray, Clay Barrett, Jason Martin, Kara Craig, Kara Cook, Amanda Forman, Jana Graber, Katy Peters, Brooke Disney

^ topIntroduction of new folks and ECOOSU
Scott Byrd announced new info about the Eco-Film Project: -We could use some help with set up/power points -The next film is Wednesday, January 28, 7-9 pm 313 Classroom Building -for a complete list and schedule visit the efp web site.
-Meeting Tuesday, January 27, 4-5:30 pm Case Study 1, fourth floor, Student Union -For more information visit www.stillwater.org/~recycles/sstw.htm -Had a discussion of how this can build on/improve the previous comprehensive plan for Stillwater. This will include a follow up on previous to see what is/isn't being done. -Sustainable Stillwater is now an official organization and will be able to receive funding.
-ECO-OSU needs to purchase clear packing tape, three tri-fold stands, and a button maker/supplies. We will vote on this next meeting. -AFAP: Clay needs to send in this information soon so we can receive funding for next year. We need to assess our plans and turn in a budget/schedule, ASAP for AFAP.
-we need to decide on how to allocate our money for the O’colly advertising. We previously put an add in the classifieds for $2. However, this was not too visible. We could put an add in the Society Squares, it costs $7 a day. Clay is bringing ballots for this next meeting as well.
-If you have not already. Please pay dues. Paying your dues has multiple payoffs including voting rights, a receipt that says you paid your dues, and lots of warm fuzzies.
-League of Women Voters is holding a workshop Wednesday, January 21, 9am-3pm at the State Capitol building -this will cost $60 at the door, but only $45 if you pre-register (and you can do this online at www.lwvok.org). -For questions or further info you can also call (405) 232-8683 or email lwvokla@aol.com
-Our first Potluck of the semester will be this Wednesday, January 21, 7:30 pm 811 N. Hester -This will be double the fun for it is a combo-potluck! We will be joining the Vegetarian Society of Stillwater -For more info you can email VSS@riseup.net
said... -Feel free to come by her office anytime, she is there waiting to see our smiling faces! -Office hours: Tues. 10-11:30 am, Thurs. 2-3:30 pm. 006 Classroom Building.
-Native plants for OSU campus: Andy has been persistent in trying to get attention for this, no replies just yet, but we will persevere! How will we persuade them? We can push the Oklahoma State as a "Land Grant" University side, we will do the work which means free labor, there isn't anything in the flower beds anyway, native species are better and easier to maintain, they can be used for educational purposes, and we will make it really pretty! Head of this committee is Andy Potter.
-Art committee: Possibility of having an art display at Earth Day, we need a new t-shirt design, and we need a new banner design. Please submit design ideas ASAP. Heads of this committee are Jason Martin and Amanda Forman.
-Earth Day Committee. Head of this committee is Clay Barrett.
-Computers: Here we will focus on what can be done with computers that are unused on campus, i.e., recycle them or send them back. -Recycling: ECOOSU will be working jointly with the Campus recycling committee. -Campus Cast Off: Junk from the end of the year, mainly from the dorms, can be organized and recycled or donated to charity, rather than having it all sent to a landfill.
-February 7, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Tulsa Community College-Northeast Campus 3727 E. Apache St. (just east of Harvard and south of Hwy 11) -Registration is $35, by January 19, 2004 (late fee of $15 after this date). This fee includes lunch and OKAEE (Oklahoma Association for Environmental Education) membership -Registration questions? Contact Jeanine Huss (OKAEE President) at (405) 744-7233 -you can also visit www.okaee.org for further info.
Jason Martin, Kara Cook, Andy Potter, Clay Barrett, Amanda Forman, Scott Byrd, Beth Caniglia, Bonnie Ann Cain, Sage Sheldon, Sayuri Shimazu, Latasha Wilson, Stella Machooka, Stephen Johnson, Dash Dennis, Jay Outhier, Erica Hurley, Daneka Hopper, Penny Hubek, Brooke Ashley

Next Eco Film is Next Wednesday February 18, 2004 7-9 pm in CLB 313 follow this link for more information about the films
We will be able to get t-shirts from Patagonia for about $4
Sayuri is working on a petition for the following ideas: Use of recycled paper on campus, installing double sided printers, installing low pressure faucets, having an on campus recycling drop off, and anything else you all might like to add. We would like to have this petition done in the next week so we can start getting signatures ASAP. Also, maybe have sandwich signs a couple days before and during Earth day so we can give people a heads up and point them in the right direction on April 22nd. We can vote on this next time.
$50 Honorarium for Brenda Davis for coming to speak…yes, thank you Brenda!
If you would like to help with the Vegetarian Society of Stillwater, they are having a meeting next month. They also have plans to adopt a school through Vegan Outreach
We are thinking about having flyers for meeting announcement instead of going through the O’Colly, the ads are too small. We could use the used paper from computer labs
Sayuri has reserved the PA system and walkie talkies for Earth Day
Next officer meeting is Monday February 16, 1:30 at House of Greek.
We are tabling by the bookstore next Wednesday, the 18th. Schedule:
Everyone left early to go and plant seeds for the native plants committee. Andy has Echinacea, bee balm, texas blue bonnets, citronella, and black eyed susans.
Clay Barrett, Andy Potter, Kara Cook, Sayuri Shimasu, Sayaka Hayashi, Latasha Wilson, Jeff Lile, Steve (I hate Andy) Johnston, Dash Dennis, Amanda Forman
^ topGoing to table Tuesday the 9th to promote No Logo (the next efp film). Will be setup in front of bookstore. Signup passed around (Andy has?). Andy asks for people to get materials for the table.
Andy asks for volunteers to chalk and flyer in support of the film on the 9th.
Will work by nominations again. ECO-OSU's election day is 14 April. Historically we hold a special session at the Hideaway. Which position would you like to run for? More at a later date on specifics.
Held in Norman on March 12th. Scott is carpool coordinator for Stillwater. Everyone should go. More information on our web site.
$3.90 each for white/natural, 4.90 for color plain (have to put our own design on). SES is considering an Earth Day item, we should coordinate with each other. 50 suggested quantity to purchase. *voting by listserve*, Clay will send out ballots.
Andy is planning to camp/hike second weekend of spring break. Contact him if you are interested.
The Stillwater Neighborwoods Program is planting trees this saturday in Pecan Hill edition.
Attended Freshman Representative Council meeting. They are planning a campus castoff type program also. Want to sell stuff, give money to cancer charity. Seems silly to do that twice within a month.
The Progressive Student Coalition is forming. We could use a second representative. They meet every other week in the SU basement on Thursday @ 7pm. Umbrella organization. Coordinate, educate, network activist groups on campus. "Big five" are ECO, Amnesty, SODA, NOW, and Afro-Am. Young Demo's also involved. Maybe doing a "cash for love" project.
Andy asks how to make ECO-OSU more "groupy". Suggested that committees report during general meetings, meet for committee work outside. Commented that committees tend not to meet outside of general meetings.

^ top-Beth is trying to help us get this going with a formal presentation and a letter to Mr. Burnett. -We could dedicate the garden to President Schmidly -We could also look into buying some plants to help fill up the garden as well as try to get some of the plants donated. (We can also include the donator on the plaque) -We're not giving up!! :)
-We can help out with this instead of trying to organize our own, but it's coming up soon...this Saturday. -The Plan: Meet @ Andy's house (302 S. Duncan or 3rd and Duncan on the SW corner) at 7:30, then carpool from there. This will last until 12 pm. -For more information and a schedule follow this link: http://www.okladot.state.ok.us/beauty/toindex.htm
-This Friday in Norman -Scott Byrd is the official carpool guy, you can contact him for carpool information.
-Jason Christian has offered to do some printing for us. -We have a couple logo possibilities -We are considering having the Graphic Design and Architecture students submit designs, as an assignment, and then announce the winner at E-Day. Their logo can be used for next year's design, and we turn this into a Earth Day tradition! -We are also going to check with the Fashion Merchandising department to see if they have printing capabilities we could use
-Clay has the contracts for every business on the strip. We need them all to sign if we want this to go through. -They would be switching to HEW for their garbage disposal and there will be cardboard recycling bin. This would also lock in their rates for three years, where they are currently paying rates that are allowed to fluctuate. -We need to get a formal letter drafted and set a deadline for the business' to sign on. -Andy is going to research the cost (or the rise in costs) over the last three years so we can make a comparison for the business owners to see. Then he's going to make pretty graphs and charts.
-Reba has announced an opportunity to help plant trees at the Stillwater Group Homes Headquarters. -she is looking for volunteers. The tentative date is March 28 around 2ish -If you would like to help out you can contact her at reba_is@excite.com
^ topTake place on April 14th, at the Hideaway (in the room on the new side). We will take nominations by email (to barretd@okstate.edu with who for which office). A listing of offices and nominations will be kept on the homepage. Requirement for officers are that they are full-time students with a GPA exceeding 2.5.
There are six formal offices: President, Vice President, Outreach Coordinator, Treasurer, and Secretary. In addition there are other important jobs: Webmaster, Listmaster, and Historian. See the constitution for the formal outline.
Remember only paid members may vote!
We will also ask Beth if she wishes to continue as our faculty advisor (not that we want to replace her, but we should not assume).
It was suggested that each committee sketch out the next year's goals, objectives, and timeline. This will help us remember what we were doing after the summer, and get us on track for the fall. Elections are also a good time to project our vision for the future of ECO.
Suggestions included: Bike racks for busses, Bus routes to downtown, promote Sustainable Strip.
Just need to finish the letter and get a cessation of service form. Monday @ 3:45 we are going to meet at the ?? Clock, then canvas the Strip handing out the forms and speaking with the businesses.
It would be nice to present the project to the S. Washington Business Association, to help get everyone on the same page and perhaps receive their support.
Jeff, Kara, & Latasha volunteered to handle this committee after Clay graduates.
Clay & Scott are graduating, so we need some more people. Daneka & Andy volunteered to be on this committee.
Probably no theme next semester, but would like to focus on more environmental issues. Since it is an election year, we could take it a step further by having information about the two candidates stances on environmental issues.
Library & Sociology Department have film that could be used.
Scott - Oklahoma Food Coop is just started. There is a small membership fee that does not have to paid up front. They have access to OK grown food of every type, a lot is organic, and even produces in the winter. Stillwater drops are once a month.
Rally at the Capitol Friday @ 1:00pm. There is an factory there that is a blight, treats workers terribly and the state is ignoring their plight. Rally on the south steps.
Reba - Girl Scouts need help planting trees Sunday @2 in front of Stillwater Group Homes (11th & Washington). There will be tea & popcorn.
Jeff L, Scott B, Kara C, Sayuri S, Reba, Daneka H, Clay B, Latasha W
There are some things for next Earth Week that we should plan for now. One thing is the reservation of locations (for speakers, for the virtual pyramid, etc). The only way to do this is by partnering with an administrator. Dr. Will Focht has offered to help us out. So the person who would like to head the EWSC next year needs to help determine the areas/dates we need things reserved. Deneka Hopper has volunteered!
Clinton Fields has provided us two possible logos. We voted for the "solid" one. He will prepare two versions, one Earth Day, one saying Earth Week, at a cost of $50.
Next Wednesday @7 @Hideaway Daily Grind Location
^ top-what will we have at the table? -Hippie feet contest, handouts, buttons, tees
-no designs were submitted, we can make all the tees into Earth Day shirts -We need to decide on screen-printing or making shirts ourselves. The difference is money vs. time. -If we make Eco tees we need a design by Monday.
-This will help next year's officers to have projects that are already started Earth Day, ECO-Film, More kids stuff, switch vendor for sustainable strip, bike racks on buses, campus cast off, consolidate groups/committees, put all ECO dates in the Mortar Board.
-Light bulbs and a hand out to go with T-shirts? More info coming...
this Wednesday at The Hideaway, 6pm -Our pizza order: 1/2 Veggie Combo 1/2 Gods, 1/2 Mediterranean 1/2 Onasis, and one mini olive and broccoli with no cheese for our friend Sage. -Nominations- Kara, Soyuri, Latasha, Jeff, Daneka, Reba.
-Clay, Andy, Sayuri, Latasha, Kara, Ryan, Amanda
^ topRather than the typical voting, the five candidates drew straws for offices... psyche. They discussed which offices they wanted, and we slate consensused it or something. Congratulations to the officers for 2004-2005:
Traditionally on the Friday of finals. It would be nice to have it somewhere we can camp. Potentially at Clay's, Latasha's, or Lake McMurtry.
