A. Frank Martin

A native of Sallisaw, OK, A. Frank Martin graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1920 with a degree in Education.  He received a master's degree in Education in 1925.  In World War I, Frank played in the same military band as William Coppedge.  After his graduation, Frank became the principal at Altus High School for two years and the superintendent of Carnegie Public Schools for two more.  After his tenure at Carnegie, Frank returned to Stillwater as the clerk of the Stadium Corporation, secretary of the Alumni Association, and the director of student employment at OAMC, a position he held until his retirement from the school in 1955.  He served Kappa Kappa Psi for 25 years as its third national executive secretary, from 1939 to 1964.  Known as "Mr. Kappa Kappa Psi," Frank served as the first Grand (National) President of the Fraternity from 1919 to 1922, and was made Honorary Grand President for life.  He and his wife Grace received the Distinguished Service to Music Medal in 1965 for their service to the Fraternity.  Frank passed away June 9, 1982, at the age of 87.  He and Grace are buried in Stillwater, OK.

Collegiate Activities

1915-16 - Member of Prep School Division 2.  Held rank of Private in Military Band (Saxophone).

1916-17 - Freshman Class President (2nd Semester), Chi Alpha Social Club, Corporal in Military Band.

1917-18 - Assistant Editor of the Orange and Black newspaper, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, saxophone player in College Band.

1918-19 - 2nd Class Musician, United States Navy Band.

               Principal Musician in Band, Member of Silver Pin, Orange and Black staff member, junior representative to Student Senate, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Junior Class Vice-President (2nd Semester).

1919-20 - Founding Father of Kappa Kappa Psi, serving on the Ritual committee, the Degree Oaths Committee, and as the Alpha Chapter's first Vice-President.

               Saxophone player in college band, Bandleader of the Regimental Band, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Social Editor of Orange and Black, Student Senate, Member of "Wildcats" spirit group, Bandmaster, student assistant in shops, YMCA cabinet, Interfraternity Council, Vice-President of the Education Society, Managing Editor of the 1920 Redskin yearbook.
