Snippet #17 - "Board of Trustees Created", taken from the May 1942 issue of The Baton. Steve Nelson: "Ever wonder about the Board of Trustees? Here's a little article that announces the creation of the board in the May, 1942 issue of The Baton:"
Kappa Kappa Psi Selects Board of Trustees In the reoganization of the Constitution, Grand President Francis Todd spent many hours in the proper balance of each division so as to give the Fraternity the best governing body possible and yet, at the same time, protect the interests of each local chapter. One of the new phases of the adopted Constitution is the provision of a board of trustees of five members - members of the Fraternity who possess outstanding business or professional ability and shall be capable of representing the corporation and Fraternity under all conditions. The Board of Trustees, selected by the delegates at the National Convention truly represent the highest type of leadership in the business and professional world. Brother Boh Makovsky was chosen as chairman and the other four members were Francis Todd, Dr. Lee Bowling, John Furlong, and Karl Shinkman. Boh Makovsky, Director of the Oklahoma A&M College Band and Past President of Kappa Kappa Psi, is known for his outstanding ability as a director. Francis Todd, of Cincinnati, also Past President, a successful young business man of high integrity. Dr. Lee Bowling, instructor of Science at Inglewood High School of Denver, Colorado, Grand President of Kappa Kappa Psi. John Furlong, of Tampa Florida; a most successful businessman, now president of the Southeast Brewing Company; and Karl Shinkman of Grand Rapids, Michigan, former executive of York Instrument Company. These five outstanding leaders furnish the guiding influence of the fraternity and in turn form a balance wheel to safeguard the life of the organization.
