The Oklahoma State University rodeo team has been a winning tradition for over 60 years. Founded in 1946, the OSU rodeo team has members from across the country. OSU is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). Rodeo team members compete in the Central Plains region against 18 other schools from Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. There are 10 NIRA rodeos each year in the Central Plains region. At the end of the year, the top three individuals in each event and the top two men’s and women’s teams advance to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.
A person can rodeo on one of OSU’s teams, which consist of either six men or four women, or as an individual. At OSU tryouts are held the week before a rodeo to determine who will be on the team. Women compete in barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat tying or team roping. Men compete in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team roping or steer wrestling.

OSU also has several members who choose not to compete at the NIRA rodeos. Along with competing members, they are valuable assets to the Oklahoma State University Rodeo Association. The OSU rodeo association works in conjunction with the OSU rodeo boosters to help promote the sport of rodeo.

Students who rodeo for OSU have a special opportunity; they get a superior education. OSU is one of only three Big 12 schools that have a rodeo team. OSU students get national recognition and education that is unmatched at other schools.
